2k12 recap

So I don’t know if anyone still reads this since I left my tumblr to die a bit after all the creepy messages
and having a (non-pornographic) photo of myself reblogged on a porn site (lol)
and all the morons who try to make girls feel insecure about themselves
and how it was acting as a giant timesuck while I was supposed to be concentrating on more important things.
Would be interesting to know who still actually reads this these days as I’m generally using it as a place to write when I actually have the free time.

Decided to do a 2012 recap since I’m finding others’ ones really interesting and it’s cool to look back on stuff and all of that.

So, this year I:

- lost 40lbs in 3 months: went from 178 to 138 and am now around 140 this holiday season, maintaining this is going to happen
- gave up drinking in January since it was crap anyway and haven’t had an alcoholic beverage for nearly a year
- was in one, two, three relationships, making me a certified slut apparently. the last of which I am still in and which I am extremely happy with. this guy suits me like no other.
- met a bunch of great people as well as one of my now best friends
- got a seriously awesome job in film for a few months with seriously awesome pay
- got kicked out of uni
- got back into uni
- spent a well-deserved few weeks across the ocean with my crazy American family (and cried before leaving, again)
- lived in student accomodation with 5 housemates for a full year, rather fed up with it now although it’s an accomplishment for me after the nightmares of first year. and I haven’t tried to beat anyone to death with their dirty dishes
- successfully grown my hair even after it started falling out from stress over the whole uni thing
- have to mention my boyfriend again since he deserves it. not sure how I ended up with such a lovely guy but I’m not letting him go anywhere anytime soon.

2013 better be amazing too.

Value range food products (for poor people like me)

Ease of not spending all your money in one go like some kind of deranged crack addict

Things I’ll miss about here:
Lovaly family
The vast array of Mexican restaurants available
Panera mac & cheese
Vanilla god-damn-addictive Chai
Ridiculously good deals (FREE tote if I spend over $10, how could I refuse?)
Unnecessary choices
Sunshine
Use of a dryer
Getting a good night’s sleep & not being woken up by the boiler/sound of someone peeing/seemingly deaf drug addict neighbours even once
Swimming, lots
Netflix (yes the UK has it now but I don’t have a tv or xbox or anything)
Nice people whose flattery borders on creepy but it’s nice that they tried
My own goddamn bathroom and shower, there is space to put things - can I just take it with me please
Cleanliness. Massively underrated.

Why my Tumblr’s a bit dead lately.

Haven’t been on here for a while, which actually seems to be a good thing. I got a bit tired of moronic people being, well, morons about certain things I posted in lieu of getting themselves a hobby or friends. And the creepy porn blogs reblogging my face. I didn’t miss it much, surprisingly being away from a dash full of pictures of borderline anorexia cases, porn and self-harm endorsements suited me just fine.

I got fed up with social media, barely using even Facebook or Twitter much these days - and I feel so much better for it. Why do I need to overshare my life - is it really anyone else’s business? Except from making contact with long-lost friends or relatives (and the occasional stalk of people you fancy) what’s the point really? 99% of it is either “I ate a sandwich LOL #ftw #nom #sammich #ham”, or “come to my awesome event thing that’s 500 miles away, we have bands you never heard of & probably don’t like..we barely talk, but I’d love it if you attended, really!!!” (except for you Paul Collier, you can stay).

At risk of sounding all nostalgic, I kind of miss the days of Livejournal where you can write pretty much whatever the hell you want, set your page to ‘friends only’ & then only your chosen friends can read it, if they so wish. Tumblr is all out in the open, and setting the page to ‘private’ is the internet equivalent to shouting in an empty room and makes me feel awkward inside.

A lot has happened lately, it’s like a big dramatic bucket of drama with extra drama on top and a dash of needless worrying about everything even though it’s probably all going to be fine anyway. The luxury of paying much less attention to this social media business is telling people these things personally if it’s their business or just because I want to tell them - shocking, right?! Not everyone on your friendlist needs to know 100% detail of your personal life! It may just be personal preference, but I like keeping it old-fashioned with meeting up with friends, phonecalls, texting & IM-ing - I just feel some things don’t need to be shared with all 391 of my friends.

What’s new? I’m pretty happy in general. Lovely people make me all excited - got closer with a few friends from spending a bit more time together, thank you summer holiday. Today I get my 2nd big payment out of 3 for a really cool job I got to do a couple months back. Looking forward to September, kind of. Disappointed in the British Further Education system; contemplating whether I should pursue my childhood dream of becoming a dinosaur.
